Resumen

El sistema de salud estadounidense se caracteriza por costos cada vez más elevados, una cantidad cada vez mayor de personas sin cobertura médica y una atención de mala calidad. La combinación de estos factores tiene un efecto negativo tanto en la salud de la población como en la capacidad del mercado local para competir con éxito a nivel mundial. La AARP (Asociación Americana de Jubilados) y otras organizaciones sin fines de lucro están colaborando con el sector privado para lograr que más personas cuenten con cobertura médica y para educar a la población sobre la importancia de adoptar ciertas conductas saludables a fin de prevenir las enfermedades crónicas y, en última instancia, reducir los costos.
