SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Accelerated Weight Gain Among Children During Summer Versus School Year and Related Racial/Ethnic Disparities: A Systematic Review

We initially identified 72 articles by searching databases and an additional 8 articles by reviewing reference lists. After excluding duplicates, 58 unique articles remained. Of the 58 original articles, 40 were excluded because they did not meet basic study inclusion criteria (eg, topic not relevant, not in English, not in peer-reviewed journal). The remaining 18 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, of which 10 were excluded for examining an excluded population (ie, outside the stated age range) and 1 was excluded because it was a review (ie, not a study). After inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, 7 studies were left for review and qualitative analysis.
