New Videotape Training Program: Recognition and Prevention of
False-Positive Test Results in Mycobacteriology
A new training program, consisting of a videotape and a study
booklet, is designed to help laboratorians achieve accurate test
results in mycobacteriology. The program, developed through a
cooperative agreement between CDC and the Association of State and
Territorial Public Health Laboratory Directors (ASTPHLD), discusses
how to recognize conditions that may lead to false-positive results
and provides strategies for eliminating or modifying these
conditions. Cross-contamination issues are specifically addressed.
Additional information is available from the National
Laboratory Training Network, telephone (800) 536-6586, or from
ASTPHLD, telephone (202) 822-5227.
