May is National Arthritis Month. Arthritis, the leading cause
of disability in the United States, affects an estimated 40 million
persons and may affect nearly 60 million persons by 2020. The
primary goal of the 1996 arthritis month is to encourage patients
to Stay Active with ArthritisSM. Benefits of regular physical
activity to persons with arthritis include decreasing fatigue,
strengthening muscles and bones, increasing flexibility and
stamina, and improving the general sense of well-being.
